Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first IPL match of the season by beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets. Virat Kohli played very well and stayed not out with 59 runs. He had a strong partnership with England’s Phil Salt, who scored 56 runs from just 31 balls. RCB chased the target of 175 runs easily and finished the match in only 16.2 overs.

RCB’s new captain Rajat Patidar also batted fast and made 34 runs from just 16 balls. England’s Liam Livingstone ended the match quickly by hitting two fours and one six, scoring 15 runs from only five balls. KKR started their innings well, scoring 107 runs for 1 wicket in just 10 overs. Sunil Narine and captain Ajinkya Rahane made 103 runs together after Quinton de Kock got out early.

But RCB’s bowler Krunal Pandya changed the game with his good bowling, taking 3 important wickets and giving away only 29 runs. He got Rahane out for 56 and also bowled Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh. Josh Hazlewood, who recently came back from injury, also bowled tightly and took 2 wickets for just 22 runs. Rahane said they wanted to score more than 200 runs, but RCB’s easy win showed they are ready to fight hard for their first IPL trophy.
